Did You Lollapalooza?! Highlights From This Year’s Festival

August 11, 2017

Full disclosure: I am mad at ALL of you, for yet again, year after year, forgetting to get me a ticket to Lollapalooza, but this isn’t about me, so we can address that later. Lollapalooza Music Festival 2017 was one for the ages (or so I’ve heard…) and has set the bar at an all-time high for music festivals, moving forward. While many who attended would say they, “braved the elements,” and survived the rain from the first day, others would say, it only enhanced the fun, happy-go-lucky crowds and added to the craziness!

Some of the highlights of this year’s festival include: the unexpected reunion of Vic Mensa and Chance the Rapper, which was met with thundering applause and appreciation from festival-goers lucky enough to witness a set that included fan favorite, “Cocoa Butter Kisses.” The surprises didn’t end there, as Charli XCX brought out Halsey to rock out to a Spice Girls song, before other electric artists continued to tear Grant Park down, including: Arcade Fire, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert and Migos! I got tired just typing that, so if anyone wants to train me for a half-marathon before hitting next year’s festival, I’m down! But…I’m also…not down…for the training part…

More highlights from the festival included explosive performances from The XX, Lorde’s rainy set, and The Killers! Not to mention two of our very own were up on stage too! Did you happen to catch DJ Mo Beatz and/or DJ Bonics’ performances?  We may be biased, but their sets with Big Sean & Wiz Khalifa, respectively, weren’t ones to miss! It becomes more and more impressive to me, to see so many headlining acts taking the time out of their never-ending tour schedules to make time for such a fan-friendly event, like Lollapalooza. At a time when the healing power of music is needed now, more than ever, it’s important to step back and be thankful for artists willing to commit their time and efforts for short sets to brighten our day, even if just for a few songs at a time!

Some more standout performances came from Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher, as well as Machine Gun Kelly (who dedicated his incredible cover of “Numb,” to Chester Bennington, in an emotional performance). You KNOW Run The Jewels absolutely crushed their set, also providing one of the festival’s highlights, inviting one of their super-fan’s on stage to rap “Legend Has It,” alongside El-P and Killer Mike. Tove Lo, Muse, Tegan and Sara also contributed with high-energy sets, for spirited crowds, that seemingly only managed to grow, as the days of the festival went on. As expected, A-Trak and Porter Robinson brought the DJ flavor to the festival, and kept the energy at an all-time high, setting the stage for other wild artists to bless the crowds, like Joey Badass, 21 Savage and the forever-hype duo, Rae Sremmurd.

Looking back at this year’s Lollapalooza, I am now furious that none of you stepped up to bring me to the festival as your plus one, and you need to understand that I hold grudges. I hold grudges and I throw tantrums, and I need you to bookmark this article for when you’re purchasing your tickets for next year! As always, don’t forget to tweet us @WeKnowTheDJ and let us know who your favorite artists were, performing at this year’s festival, and who you’d like to see, perform next year!

Have a great weekend!
