Revealed: 2017 Emmy Nominees

July 20, 2017

This year’s Emmy’s are right around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited! The Emmy’s, awards based around the best in television, will air from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angles on Sept. 17. Stephen Colbert, who has his own popular show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, has been chosen to host the show.

Because we are, as you know, a music-based website, it only makes sense for us to focus on the numerous musical acts nominated this year.  Check out some of the nominees below:

Chance The Rapper

Chance The Rapper. Chance The Rapper. Chance The Rapper. I’ll never get tired of seeing his face, listening to his music and watching him receive well-deserved recognition for seemingly everything he does. He’s a talented man, that’s for sure, and now he has a chance to stick an Emmy in his bag of bragging rights. His song “Last Christmas,” which he performed on Saturday Night Live scored him a nomination for Outstanding Music and Lyrics.

Snoop Dog

I originally found the relationship between Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart to be rather odd, but, hey, it has done a lot of good for both of them! Their show Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party, which airs on VH1, landed in the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-competition Program category. Turns out (probably against the judgment of many, including myself), the show is a hit, and they could very well receive an award for it. Though not for musical recognition, I’m sure Snoop Dogg wouldn’t be opposed to winning.

Donald Glover

Is there anything Donald Glover can’t do? A man of seemingly endless talent, and to some, more commonly known as Childish Gambino in terms of his musical endeavors, Glover is thriving in all fields. He will compete for awards in this year’s Emmy’s in multiple categories: Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. As a writer, singer, rapper, etc., etc., etc., it’s no surprise to see his name so often.

LL Cool J

If you haven’t seen Lip Sync Battle, you’re definitely missing out. The television show turns celebrities dressing up and embarrassing themselves as they sing along to their favorite songs in a competition. LL Cool J, co-host and producer of the show, received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Structured Reality Program. With the amount of times I’ve laughed while watching the show, I’d be ready to hand him the award any day!

Lin-Manuel Miranda

Lin-Manual Miranda, most commonly known for his Broadway masterpiece Hamilton, is nominated for another Emmy. Miranda seems to possess all the creative talent in the world, and rightfully so, receives praise for it. This year, he is up for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for hosting Saturday Night Live.

Common already has a surplus of major awards under his belt, but that doesn’t mean he’s stopping anytime soon. The rapper is nominated under the same category as Chance The Rapper (Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics), for his song “Letter to the Free.” The song was created for Ava DuVernay’s documentary known as 13th.

Until the show, music lovers.
