Everything You Need to Know About the 2017 ACM Awards

April 5, 2017

On Sunday night, the Academy of Country Music Awards returned for the 52nd year in a row. The event, held in Las Vegas and hosted by Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan, was fun-filled and jam-packed with performances and other exciting moments.

Let’s recap!

This act came last in the show, but I feel the need to bring it up first because I’m still so excited about it. Backstreet Boys and Florida Georgia Line teamed up for a performance that forced everyone out of their seats and got their bodies moving. Singing their iconic song “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and accompanying their vocals with polished choreography, the two groups even had Faith Hill and Tim McGraw cheering them on from the audience.

It seems like Miranda Lambert is, and always has been, nothing short of beautiful and exceptionally talented, and she continues to be awarded for it. Lambert left the show with two awards, one of which recognized The Weight of These Wings, a work inspired by the heartbreak she felt after the end of her marriage with Blake Shelton, as the Album of the Year.

In addition, she gave a heartfelt performance of her song “Tin Man” and won Top Female Vocalist of the Year. Not only is she kicking butt, she’s making history after winning this award eight years in a row and glad to be doing so alongside many other females.

“I’m just glad to see females kicking a** these days. I’m so proud to be a part of that. So cheers to all of us girls out there dreaming,” Lambert said.

Jason Aldean started the show by singing “Lights Come on.” Aldean was also another big winner of the night, taking home the award for Entertainer of the Year for the second time. He was blown away by the fact that one of the Eagles handed him his award, stating “You guys don’t know how much I love getting up and doing what I do every day.”

Other performers included Carrie Underwood, who sang “Church Bells” and sported a shimmery silver dress, and Keith Urban, who really immersed himself in the crowd as he sang “Wasted Time,” “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and “The Fighter.” Underwood joined him for the last song, blessing everyone with a beautiful duet.

Sam Hunt’s performance was one for the books. To be honest, I’m completely in love with him, so I wasn’t sure whether my heart swelled or completely burst when he went into the crowd to serenade his fiancée Hannah Lee Fowler during “Body Like a Back Road.” She looked a little embarrassed (maybe because their relationship hasn’t been very publicized), but the act was cute nonetheless.

The entire list of performers was as follows: Jason Aldean, Kelsea Ballerini, Brothers Osborne, Lauren Daigle, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line, Faith Hill, Sam Hunt, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Jon Pardi, Rascal Flatts, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton, Cole Swindell, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Backstreet Boys .
