Ed Sheeran seems to do birthdays a little bit different than the rest of us.

Some people go out with their friends for their birthday.  Some people throw a party.  Some people get presents from the ones they love, but not Ed Sheeran.  Instead of getting gifts on his birthday, Ed Sheeran gives them.

Last Friday, on February 17, Ed Sheeran turned 26 and released another song from his album called “How Would You Feel (Paean)”.

If any of you are like me and don’t know what “Paean” means, it is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as “a joyous song or hymn of praise, tribute, thanksgiving, or triumph.”  From the first words of this song,  it is quite obvious that it is a song of praise and a soulful love song.

“How would you feel/If I told you I loved you/It’s just something that I want to do/I’m taking my time, spending my life/Falling deeper in love with you/So tell me that you love me too,” Sheeran croons to listeners everytime the song’s chorus plays.

Fans of Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” are sure to love “How Would You Feel”.  It’s quite possible that this new song is even more heartfelt and romantic.  It won’t be long until this song is played at countless weddings as newly married couples share their first dance.

These days, birthday celebrations usually last more than one day and turn into birthday week celebrations.  Sheeran must be a fan of the birthday week celebration trend because he gifted fans with even more new music just seven days after releasing “How Would You Feel (Paean)”.  Capitalizing on the success of his current chart-topping hit, “Shape of You”, Sheeran released two new remixes.

The first of the two remixes Sheeran actually debuted a couple of days earlier at the Brit Awards 2017 at the O2 in London.  He played “Castle on the Hill” first and then transitioned into “Shape of You”.  When it was time for the second verse, Stormzy surprised the crowd to debut his verse and their new remix.  The official version of the remix was released on Friday alongside the Major Lazer remix.

The Major Lazer remix feels like a completely different song.  Nyla’s voice is introduced to the song, so it sings kind of like a duet between her and Sheeran at parts.  The beat, though, is completely transformed.  If not for Sheeran’s voice, the song would be almost unrecognizable when compared to the original. Major Lazer fans will immediately recognize their signature sounds as they take a listen.  This remix has a more dance-hall vibe that’s fun and makes you want to dance.

With the release of a new song and two awesome remixes, let’s just say we’re thankful for the day that Ed Sheeran was born.  Even more reason to be thankful?  Sheeran’s new album, Divide, will be out on March 3rd.  If his new music is an indication of what’s to come, Divide is going to be awesome and a sure-fire success.  We can’t wait to hear it!
