The Chainsmokers have kicked off 2017 by announcing they are in an exclusive relationship.  This commitment is going to force them to settle down a little and spend a lot of sleepless nights in Las Vegas.

On Wednesday, January 4th, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, the duo that make up The Chainsmokers, revealed that they signed an exclusive three-year residency deal with Wynn Nightlife in Las Vegas.

At first, people were confused about what this meant.  Many assumed that this meant that the only place that you could see the Chainsmokers perform in the United States would be in Vegas at The Wynn.  While this theory held some merit, it was missing a big piece of the truth.

Yes, from now until 2019, the Wynn’s XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club are the only night and day club where the duo will perform in the United States.  This residency deal, though, still allows the Chainsmokers to play at other concert venues in the United States, just no other clubs.  Hopefully they will continue to play at all of our favorite festivals (Ultra, Electric Zoo, Austin City Limits, just to name a few) and perform at other venues in various cities around the country so all of their fans can have the opportunity to see them.

If you ask me, there are a lot of pros and cons that go along with this residency.

As far as the pros go, we all have another excuse to go to Las Vegas!  As if Sin City didn’t hold enough appeal with the chance for you to party all weekend, the Wynn just upped the quality of entertainment for club-goers.  I wouldn’t be surprised if some of Vegas’ other biggest clubs start to promote their resident DJs even more so people know XS isn’t the only place to party.  Another pro is that anyone who wants to experience the Chainsmokers live, but hasn’t had the chance to yet, now knows exactly where to find them!  Fans will have choices over when they want to see them DJ and can plan their trip to Vegas around it.

The con that stands out the most to me is the cost.  Traveling to Las Vegas is expensive.  Hotel rates in Vegas are expensive.  Going out in Vegas is expensive.  Therefore, not all Chainsmoker fans will be able to afford a trip out to Vegas to see them, and since the duo is going to be spending so much time there, it only makes sense that they will spend less time playing in other cities.  In turn, it may make it harder for some of their fans to see them.

It seems like a Las Vegas residency is just one of the many announcements that the Chainsmokers will make in these first few weeks of the new year.  On December 30th, they premiered their new song “Paris”, which is rumored to be their first single of 2017 and will be out soon, according to the duo.  Fans who were at the show have been putting up videos of the song all over the internet, and people seem to love it already.  I guess we’ll just have to wait until the song is released to see if it’s going to be a hit.

There’s no way to deny it, though.  It looks like 2017 is going to be a good year for the Chainsmokers.
