Martin Garrix Reigns Victorious as DJ Mag’s 2016 Top DJ

October 28, 2016

DJ Mag released their annual list of top DJs in the world. This year, at only 20 years old, Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix reigns victorious. Garrix received his award at Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, where the Top 100 DJs Poll Party was held to kick off the Amsterdam Dance Event. It was a sentimental but exciting moment as his mentor, Tiësto, presented him the award on stage.

“It feels unreal to have won. I 100% did not expect it at all,” said Garrix as he accepted the award. “I’ve had an amazing year, with awesome shows and amazing fans. I’m so thankful for their support. I didn’t even do a campaign, and it just shows how dope the fan-base is.”

The response to the poll was record-breaking, exceeding one million votes. According to DJ Mag, fans voted “from almost every country on the planet, [and] the most votes came from the USA, followed by India, Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Russia, China, Japan and beyond.”

Garrix has received great recognition for his dance-inducing songs ‘Animals’ and ‘In the Name of Love.’ Beating out Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, he is the youngest DJ at this level of success, and we are sure this is only the beginning for him. He then went on to perform two consecutive nights at the festival for an excited, supportive crowd.
