Wiz Khalifa Releases His Highly Anticipated New Mixtape, “28 Grams”

June 2, 2014

Wiz Khalifa was detained on Sunday for a few hours for the possession of an illegal substance, and while detained, took a picture of himself (I refuse to acknowledge the word “Selfie” as acceptable in any public setting) and then posted said picture to his Twitter. There, now that I’ve given you “news” which serves no relevance to the quality of his most recent project, “28 Grams,” I can actually get to the meat and potatoes, and tell you about how the mixtape sounds, because after all, you’re here for the music, and so are we!

The Wizzle Man has just released his new mixtape – 28 Grams as a pre-cursor to his forthcoming fifth studio album, Blacc Hollywood, and sticking with the theme of the mixtape, Wiz includes 28 total songs. Some of which freestyles over popular beats that anyone who’s turned on a radio in the past 24 hours will be familiar with and be able to recognize how Wiz makes each song his own, adding his signature creative twist on each hook. Back in February, Wiz released the first single from Blacc Hollywood entitled, “We Dem Boyz,” which has been a hit for months now, and only made the wait for 28 Grams THAT much more difficult.

On the tape, Wiz gets the usual assistance from friends, Berner, Curren$y, Chevy Woods, Juicy J, Ty Dolla $ign, Pimp C, JR Donato, Curtis Williams, Thundercat, Uzi and Tuki Carter. Some of the standout tracks include: “Aw Shit,” “Incense,” “Samo,” “On A Plane,” and “Something Special”. If you, like me, enjoy listening to Wiz while driving, I would highly suggest adding 28 Grams to your playlist and rolling the windows down, so that when the person at the stoplight next to you asks what your bumping, you can point them in the right direction!
