Ed Sheeran Delivers Yet Again with New Album, “X”

June 25, 2014

Well what did you think would happen here people? The man, the genius, the artist behind “The A Team,” “U.N.I,” and “Lego House,” has delivered, yet again, an incredibly strong follow up to his debut album “+” with his sophomore album, “X”.

Sheeran began his early promotion for X, by releasing the first official single for the album back in April, the Pharrell Williams produced, “Sing”. The track went on to become a highly successful chart-topper, erasing any doubt that his sophomore album would be anything short of incredible. As if releasing a single two months before the album release date wasn’t enough, the 23-year-old UK native went on to premiere his MTV documentary, 9 Days and Nights of Ed Sheeran, which included footage of Ed’s hometown in England, returning to visit his old school and music department. Furthermore, the documentary showed old footage of Sheeran performing in bars and open mic sessions, impressing audiences who least expected his talent, which only fueled his desire to bring something entirely new to the table. The growth of Ed Sheeran has been incredible, seeing him go from a homeless performer to working with Rick Rubin for weeks in his private home to polish his album’s sound. There is no question that Sheeran has taken the time to produce a completely cohesive project, which does not disappoint.

To celebrate his album’s release, Sheeran held an iHeartRadio release party in Burbank, performing an array of new and old hits in front of hundreds of screaming fans. Throughout the party, he simultaneously answered interview questions from host, Mario Lopez; covering everything from his meeting with Usher, Diplo and Skrillex, to being driven to the hospital by Gavin DeGraw after slicing open his hand at a Nashville bar. It’s very easy to see what makes Ed Sheeran such an impressive artist; from his humble demeanor to his impressively unique sound to easily vibe out to.

While impossible to pick a favorite, having only been able to listen to the album a few times through, some immediate highlights of X include, “Sing,” “Nina,” “Thinking Out Loud,” and the undeniably catchy hit “Don’t”.

You are truly doing yourself a disservice if you don’t stop reading this article this second, and head over to the nearest store carrying Ed Sheeran’s latest offering, X, and immediately throw it into your current CD rotation, supporting real music. To simply say that you won’t be disappointed, doesn’t quite justify the strength of this album. Ed Sheeran has put together a body of work deserving of much praise, so lookout for X to climb the Billboard Charts, as the album has already dominated iTunes as of this morning!

Don’t forget to tweet us @weknowthedj to let us know what you think of the album! What’s that? You still haven’t picked up a copy yet? What are you waiting for?! Go!!
