It’s my favorite time of year and no, I’m not just talking about summer vacation. What could possibly be responsible for my great mood? Well, Blake Kelly has just blessed our ears with new music, which means I’m back with another article about my favorite rapper! Back in January, I warned you that Blake was releasing an EP this year that would change the game forever and guess what—the day has arrived! Gordo has hit iTunes and is available for free download on DatPiff so WeKnowTheDJ readers, it’s time for you to become familiar with one of 2014’s greatest projects!

With backing from bossman DJ Tay James and our entire WeKnowTheDJ team, Blake’s about to skyrocket right to the top of the game. Another team providing ample support for Blake’s most recent project is none other than Dream Urban. Ashley Garner pulled through with the cover, tracklist, photography and artwork as DerekDidIt provided incredible visuals for Blake’s most recent music videos. With a Grade A team, this definitely isn’t the last you’re going to hear from Blake Kelly but for now, be sure to check out my track-by-track review below!

When I Want (produced by Mark “The Mogul” Jackson)

Living life to the fullest, Blake Kelly is starting off strong. With the craziness surrounding the rockstar lifestyle, it’s no surprise that Blake does whatever he wants whenever he wants. As someone who’s just getting started in the game, Blake’s confidence will be one factor automatically pushing him toward success… After all, who’s going to believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself?

For Some Money (produced by Mark “The Mogul” Jackson)

The futuristic beat that appears at the beginning of “For Some Money” instantaneously gets you in the mood to listen to some great music. One thing about Blake is he’s never one to put out work that he’s not 110% proud of and this track definitely makes the cut! Plain and simple, this one’s all about what people will go through just for some money. As the track progresses, there’s no doubt about it, Blake and his guys are the A-team.

Papi Gordo (produced by Hippie Sabotage)

In mid-March, Blake dropped a visual to “Papi Gordo,” the track that got the ball rolling in terms of Gordo preparation. Whether this track inspired the EP’s title or the other way around, Papi Gordo is none other than Blake Kelly. The track’s chorus will definitely be stuck in your head for days on end but there’s definitely no apology needed— once you hear the track for the first time, you won’t mind hearing “Papi… Gordo…” over and over again!

Facedown (produced by Mark “The Mogul” Jackson)

Hearing “Facedown” for the first time, the first thing that came to mind was an extremely crowded club with bossman DJ Tay James doing what he does best. “Face down, ass up” are the four most memorable words throughout the track so I’m guessing you can assume what the song is all about. Of course, I’m talking about turning up… It’s all about being about the lifestyle, especially when dealing with the rockstars.

Thuggin’ (produced by Mark “The Mogul” Jackson)

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to spend a beautiful LA day with Blake Kelly and his best friends? Well, thanks to DerekDidIt, you can experience the unknown! The music video for “Thuggin’,” released back in April, proves exactly why DerekDidIt is one of my favorite directors. Featuring and produced by Mark the Mogul, “Thuggin’” gets briefly interrupted by a twerk session but I wouldn’t expect anything else from the rockstars! I’ve posted the track’s music video so if you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t watched it yet: go check it out! Just don’t be surprised when the hook is stuck in your head for hours on end.

Wherever You Are featuring Jo Stunnah (produced by Al B Smoov)

“Wherever you are,” I’m probably rolling up… Actually I’m still in New York but there’s a good chance you’ll see Blake Kelly rolling up! He says he does it for his people so Blake, if doing it for your people results in amazing music, keep doing it for them! He might be from the bottom but his current rockstar lifestyle includes balling just because he likes to feast. Some people may say he’s chasing a pipedream but let’s be honest, you see people who are part of the rockstar movement almost everyday.

Friday (produced by Al B Smoov)

Do you want to know how good Blake Kelly’s life is? Well, the Los Angeles based rapper insists every day’s a “Friday.” If that’s the case, I’m not going to disagree, especially because I don’t have Friday classes next semester! Direct deposit, trips to the mall, sporting Louis and grabbing Dolce? The rockstar movement is definitely one I need to join! This one’s pretty self-explanatory: if you live the rockstar lifestyle, it’s always Friday!

Alright featuring Phil Ade (produced by Cats)

The beginning of “Alright” starts with a brief pause, giving listeners the chance to reflect on what they’ve already heard and prepare themselves for the rest of the EP. He might have been sleeping on the floor, dreaming of millions like everyone he knows but what makes BK any different from everyone else chasing the same goal? Simply put, Blake Kelly and his team are on! Dream Urban’s DerekDidIt has pulled through once again with an incredibly shot music video, posted below.

On It featuring Ya Money (produced by Stooki Sounds)

Swagged out and “on it” because what else do you really need? Racing to the top, this project is one Blake definitely needed to give him a head start on his competition. As long as you’re a baller with your stacks out, you can run with Blake for a day or two before the lifestyle becomes too much to handle. I still can’t understand how someone could handle a day in Blake’s life but Kelly and his team seem to always find a way to make it work.

Position featuring Al Fats (produced by True Religion)

Throwing a couple of hundreds and calling it loose change, Blake Kelly is in the right industry! Al Fats is right, the focus should be on happiness and how you’re living, especially because life can end any day. Making millions has become a recurring dream in Blake Kelly’s life—a dream that’s about to become reality as he climbs his way to the top. How’s he getting there? His team’s working hard while your squad is hardly working.

S.A.N.D.O.S featuring Jo Stunnah (produced by Al B Smoov)

Enlisting the help of Siri, Blake re-introduces us to Three Six Mafia’s acronym, “S.A.N.D.O.S.” because sometimes it’s about being a freak while acting like a lady. A personal shoutout to Tay James, courtesy of Jo Stunnah, comes mid-song because every name becomes known as soon as bossman starts bumping your CD!

D.R.U.G.S (featuring Leigh Bush)

Blake Kelly teams up with Leigh Bush on “D.R.U.G.S,” a track only featured on iTunes. Blake suggests a trip to an island which definitely sounds too good to pass up so BK, the next time you want to take a vacation in the tropics, remember your favorite WeKnowTheDJ writer!

As Gordo came to an end in my iTunes library, Layover (Blake’s first mixtape) began playing, instantly proving how far the rapper has come. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little sentimental going from tracks like “Roll With Me” and “Just Not Fair” to “For Some Money” and “Thuggin’.” It’s been a crazy journey but it’s incredible to see Blake’s progression from when he was first getting his name in the game until now. The best part about it? He has so much potential to reach great heights and we’ll be there every step of the way!

EXCLUSIVE: No Flex Zone – Gordo Freestyle

Blake continues to surprise us… Less than a day after releasing Gordo, he’s back with even more music! After staying up all night to celebrate a “dope ass tape,” Blake hit us with an exclusive freestyle. Posting “No Flex Zone – Gordo Freestyle” to his SoundCloud and Twitter early morning, we’re reminded once again why he’s our favorite! Speaking of the mixtape release, partying on private islands with Bizzle (or Justin Bieber–whichever you prefer) and Supper Club on Tuesdays, it’s a no flex zone.

Unfortunately, Blake can only put out a certain amount of songs at once which means my time here is finished. But don’t worry, I’ll be back really soon with even more content from the Rockstar himself! For now, head over to https://t.co/NdfZsVmQIV or http://t.co/Fg5kvPlXHw to download Gordo. Don’t forget to send us a tweet at @weknowthedj to share your thoughts on Blake’s most recent EP!
