Ultra Music Festival 2014

April 3, 2014

For those of you who may not know, Ultra Music Festival is one of the biggest outdoor electronic music festivals in America, and has up until now been held annually in Miami, Florida. This year the festival took place over a three day span, from March 28th– 30th. With almost 60 artists -including Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, DeadMau5, Hardwell, Kewella, and Zedd- performing on 7 of Ultra’s stages it was impossible to catch everything. But in case you missed it, here are some of the biggest highlights from this past weekend.

On Friday:

  • Tiesto was joined on stage with Icona Pop and together they performed Icona Pop’s song “Let’s Go”. It was a magical surprise for everyone in attendance.
  • Waka Flocka Flame surprised everyone by jumping on stage during Carnage’s set

On Saturday:

  • An innocent security guard was trampled by a crowd of festival goers, and currently remains in the hospital in critical condition.
  • Deadmau5, who was named as a last minute replacement for Avicii, created a remix of Marvin Garrix’s hit ‘Animals’ by mixing it with the nursery rhyme ‘Old McDonald’.
  • Krewella performed a tear-jerking remix of John Legend’s ‘All of Me’
  • Despite the torrential downpours fans stayed until the end of Armin van Buuren’s set to hear his Grammy nominated song ‘This is What it Feels Like”

On Sunday:

  • Hardwell set the tone for the rest of the day with a lively and exciting set that everyone seemed to be singing along with.
  • Afrojack surprised the audiences by bring Matthew Koma on stage to perform their song ‘Illuminate’.
  • Diplo and Skrillex performed together as ‘Jack U’ debuting some of their new tracks.

Due to some of the unforeseen and regretful circumstances of this year (Security guard hospitalized) Miami officials are now calling for an end of Ultra in Miami. Nothing has been officially released yet, but it is likely that Ultra may have to relocate to a new city next year. Besides that tragic incident, however, Ultra 2014 was filled with many fun and exciting memories for everyone who attended. If you watched any of the live stream, you could see the joy on everyone’s faces. The overall idea of the Ultra Music Festival is to bring people together through music.

After all, it is all about the music, right?

We’re anxious to hear about what the future holds for Ultra! If you didn’t get to see the Livestream, you can look up any of your favorite artists’ sets on Youtube.
