As always, the Juno Awards shine the spotlight on Canada’s biggest and brightest celebrities. This year’s broadcast of the 43rd annual award show on March 30th was no exception, with exciting performances and big titles given to deserving artists.

The show started off with co-hosts Serena Ryder and Classified performing a medley of their songs “What I Wouldn’t Do” and “3 Foot Tall”, complete with an on-stage children’s choir singing along.

Indie rock duo Tegan and Sara notably took home the Single of the Year for their track “Closer”, and sang the song later during the show. Then they added some comedic humor by joining forces with Serena Ryder for a skit about the harsh winter weather and hoping for warm and tropical weather to soon arrive.

However, the best moment of the night was Canadian favorite Chris Hadfield singing a snippet of “Takin’ Care of Buisness” before inducting the Bachman–Turner Overdrive into Canada’s Music Hall of Fame. The Sheepdogs, Matt Mays, Tim Hicks and Travis Good of The Sadies also came out to tribute the band before the group themselves hit the stage to finish the song.

Although most of the show was obviously glitz and glamour, there was a some pressing problem within it. Pop superstar Justin Bieber won the Fan Choice Award for the 4th year in a row, once again beating out this year’s competitors which included Arcade Fire, Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, Drake, Hedley, Michael Bublé, Robin Thicke, Serena Ryder and Walk Off the Earth. Instead of the audience recognizing his accomplishments as the reason for his legions of Beliebers, Bieber was booed when his name was declared the winner. Everybody seems to constantly forget the WeKnowTheDJ motto, “it’s all about the music.”
