March 22, 2014

Being a fan of an artist means more than just going to their shows and buying their music. It’s all about trying to get them on the iTunes top ten, better yet to number one. As Beliebers know about this all too well, getting an artist to the top not only shows your support it takes some work! The list is constantly changing, but here is a countdown of the top songs out right now! With the list ranging from Florida Georgia Line to Katy Perry, it is sure to be an interesting one!

turn down

Coming in at number 10 is the song “Turn Down for What”. The Dj Snake and Lil’ Jon song was released in October of last year, and hit number 10 on Billboard’s Top 100! This pop, electric song was first made popular on the social network Vine. As the song was shown in many Vines of people “Turning up” truly giving us the meaning behind the song. This song also helped coin the popular phrase of the same title. People everywhere love to Turn Up to the smash!

Making the list at number 9 is “This is How we Roll” by popular country duo, Florida Georgia Line ft. notorious rump shaker; Luke Bryan! Off of their album “Here’s to the Good Times” this song was released just last month but has made amazing chart accomplishments. Aside from iTunes, the song peaked at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 1 on US Hot Country Songs (Billboard)! Proving that this country song is surely a hit!

Number 8 is one of my favorites! “Pompeii”, by British group Bastille was released in February of 2013, but continues to stay on the charts. The 4th single off of the album “Bad Blood” has captured interests of people all over the Country! Upon its debut, the song was number 2 on the UK Singles Charts, number 4 on Australian ARIA Chart, number 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 list, and number 1 on the Alternative Songs Chart. The smooth sounding pop track, which is lyrically written about the Roman town, was also nominated for a 2014 BRIT Award. The song continues to be popular with remaining on the charts and gracing radio stations across the nation!

Song number 7 is a social media inspired song. The track “ #Selfie”, by The Chainsmokers was released January of this year and quickly climbed the charts. With charting at number 18 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and making it to number 1 on the U.S. Dance Electric songs (Billboard), this song is sweeping the airways. From appearing in Vines, to being the caption on hundreds of pictures on Instagram there is no way you have not heard it! And, while it is nice to dance to, I am sure it has even inspired us to take a selfie or two in the short time it has been out.

talk dirty

Making its way to number 6 is another favorite of mine. “Talk Dirty” by pop artist Jason Derulo ft. 2 Chainz is a completely different Derulo than we are used to, but has proved that his new sound is attractive and keeps us wanting more. The song made its debut in August of 2013 from the album “Tattoos”. Like I said, it is a totally different song than we are used to but it has proved to be a winner. The song has appeared at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 on the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs (Billboard). But, not only is Jason talking dirty to us in one language, he re-recorded the song again with 2 Chainz in a Spanish version and released it February of this year.

Breaking in the top 5 is “Let it Go” from the Academy Award winner Frozen! Written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and husband Robert Lopez this song has had many accomplishments since its release back in November. Being the Oscar winner for Best Original Song, and the first song to break in the top 10 of Billboard Hot 100 since the 1995 “Colors of the Wind”, this inspiring song has made quite the impression. Recently being adapted by pop star Demi Lovato, is giving the song even more recognition. If you have not listened yet, I think it is definitely worth your time!

Coming in at number 4 is “The Man” by Aloe Balcc. The song hails off of the third album “Lift Your Spirit” and has sold over a million copies. With writers such as: Egbert Dawkins, Elton John, and Sam Barson and produced by DJ Khalil, it is no wonder that this song has had such success! Peaking on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 10 this song is a hot track!

Making the top 3 is the song “Dark Horse”. The song came from Katy’s smash album “Prism” and was her tenth song to top the Billboard Hot 100 list. The song is a new sound from Katy, described as having a ‘trap and hip-hop’ sound, Katy was interviewed saying she wanted the song to have a “witchy, spell like sound.” With Juicy J featured in the song, it wasted no time climbing all of the charts, even being the number 1 on iTunes! People everywhere cannot stopping playing this song, as it is super catchy!

Coming in at number 2 is the beautiful ballad “All of Me” by John Legend. The third single from his album “Love in the Future” is inspired by his fiancée, and is sure to be the wedding song of many. As this song truly shows ones love to their significant other and pulls at every heart string you have, it is so beautifully written. It has peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 3 and on iTunes at number 1.

Here we have it.. The number one song on iTunes… May I have a drumroll please… The number 1 song is “Happy” by Pharrell Williams! As I am sure this is no shock to you, this upbeat song has been at the top of every chart for weeks! The song which is originally from the Despicable Me 2 album, also serves as the first single from Pharrell’s new album GIRL. This song is so fun and upbeat it does nothing but make you… HAPPY! For the entire three minutes and fifty-three seconds you are sure to “clap along” and dance as well! This song does nothing but put you in a great mood and leaves you wanting more!

Well, here is the list of iTunes top 10! Hope you enjoyed and I hope some of your favorites made the list! Let us know if they did @weknowthedj!
