Fresh Track Friday

February 14, 2014

Music is a beautiful thing, always changing and always evolving. I figured I’d take this opportunity to introduce you to some of the newest songs on my iPod, in order for you to potentially widen your current music selection.

I try to stay up to date on current music, but sometimes it takes awhile for me to hear a song on the radio before I decide if I actually like it enough to put it on my iPod. With that being said, some of these songs might not be new but they are new to me, and could possibly be new to you too. That’s the thing about music, its ranges from region to region; my radio stations might not be playing the same as where you’re from. We can all bond over music no matter where we’re from or what language we speak, that’s the true beauty of it.

I also enjoy a wide variety of music, so I apologize in advance if my list seems a little random. I listen to everything from Pop and Country to Hip Hop and most recently, Trap/EDM. I’m hoping that everyone reading this will be able to relate to at least one of these songs. I’m planning on introducing to you a new song that you haven’t heard before that you enjoy, in the hopes of adding to your ‘Recently Added’ playlist.

So let’s get to it! The first song I’d like to introduce to you is ‘Talk Dirty’ by Jason Derulo (featuring 2 Chainz). I can’t get this song out of my head. Like all Jason Derulo songs, this track encompasses pop and electronic influences. Apparently it was released in the UK last September but it just started playing on the radio here in Florida, nonstop I might add.  The song tells a story about Jason flirting with a woman in a foreign country, but he doesn’t know the language. He explains “Been around the world, don’t speak the language but your booty don’t need explaining. All I really need to understand is when you talk dirty to me”. The chorus is my favorite part of the song, which includes a jazzy/percussion tune which you can’t help but dance to. I promise if you listen to it once you’ll fall in love with it- give it a listen here and then tell me what you think!

Next on the list is Cedric Gervais’ remix of Miley Cyrus’ ‘Adore You’. The third single off of Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz album wasn’t doing as well as the previous two, so she asked Cedric Gervias to make a remix for her. The original version of ‘Adore You’ is very slow and genuine. The remixed version speeds up the tempo and adds some electric beats which makes it the perfect song to dance along with, while still maintaining the intimacy of the original. Cedirc Gervias is best known for his remix of ‘Summertime Sadness’ and I’m sure that this new edit of ‘Adore You’ will receive just as much attention.  So take a listen and dance your heart away, I foresee this being played in clubs all over the world soon.

Next on my list is ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. I can’t help but smile and do the Carlton dance every time I hear this song. The song was first featured in the movie Despicable Me 2 and will be featured on Pharell’s upcoming album, expected  later this year. The song has an old-school tune to it, and combined with Pharell’s vocals it’s just magic. With lyrics like “Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth, because I’m happy” how do you not clap along and smile?

It’s one of those songs that will instantly put you in a good mood, if you don’t believe me listen to it here

Last but not least is “The Man” by Aloe Blacc, who became an instant sensation after his collaboration with Avicci on ‘Wake Me Up’.  As Aloe Blacc says himself “Go ahead and tell everybody

I’m the man” – he is the man. This song is the perfect mixture of meaningful lyrics and a steady melody. Aloe is defintiely someone to be on the lookout for because he is a rising star. His vocals and style of music are very refreshing. I guarentee you will find yourself bobbing your head while listening to this track. Try it out here-

Well there you have it- four songs you may or may not have already heard, but should definitely have on your iPod. Tell us what you think, or if there are any other new songs you’ve heard that you want to share with us. No matter where you’re from or what kind of music you like to listen to, we can all bond over the common love of music. Music is the universal language after all.

Let us know your thoughts and if you enjoyed these songs! @WeKnowTheDJ
