Taylor Swift Keeps It “Red” Hot With Grammy Performance

January 28, 2014

It wouldn’t be the Grammys without Taylor Swift leaving the entertainment world with something to remember.

Everything about Swift’s presence at the 56th annual biggest night in music shocked those who watched. Not only did she stray from her typical red carpet style of red lipstick, a white gown and gorgeous long blonde curls, but she also toned down the dramatics while singing and showcased her powerhouse vocals that make her the star she is. Swift’s 2014 performance was the slow and sensitive ballad “All Too Well” from her newest album, “Red” (watch below). This was a far cry from the upbeat and sassy radio hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” that Swift previously owned the stage for at the 2013 show.

Positioning herself at the piano with poise, Swift immediately grabbed the attention of every person watching, whether live in person or from their televisions at home. With her dress cascading behind her, Swift delivered every note, closed her eyes from time to time to really focus, and flipped her hair back and forth to make it obvious that she was completely consumed in the song. In order to evoke emotion, she powerfully enunciated certain lyrics that painted a perfect picture of flashbacks to memories she shared with a previous lover.

It’s no wonder she received a standing ovation, because Swift proved that she isn’t a gimmick. All the talk of who she chooses to date or how often she does is irrelevant because her soul is in her music. She is very talented and relatable, and only has herself to credit for those pop icon qualities. Not to mention Swift is only 24, so she has a lot more success coming her way in the countless years to come.

Being that “All Too Well” was the first song Swift ever wrote for “Red”, it quickly became a fan favorite. Swift teased her fans on January 24, 3 days before this year’s award show, via Instagram (@taylorswift) captioning the photo below as, “Today at rehearsals for @Grammys. I’m trying to remember..What was the song a lot of you were saying you wanted me to perform on the #Grammys?” The lists of comments posted by “Swifties” on the picture were constantly the same request.

Surprisingly enough, Swift didn’t add any awards to her collection of 7 Grammys this year. While seemingly unheard of due to her consistent winning streak in the past, the last time she went home empty-handed was 2010. Alas, Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” won Album of the Year, though Swift thought it was her judging by the initial surprised look both on her face and those close to her. However, her 4 nominations were Album of the Year (“Red”), Best Country Duo/Group Performance (“Highway Don’t Care” with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban), Best Country Song (“Begin Again”), and Best Country Album (“Red”). Without a doubt, Taylor Swift will be back next year to rock the stage again by either sweeping up categories of awards or carrying out another show-stopping performance.
