The Voice - Season 5

It’s getting close to the end of “The Voice” as the finish line is in sight and on Monday night, the top five proved that they earned their position in this season’s semifinals. The remaining contestants—three from Team Adam Levine, one from Team Blake Shelton, and one from Team Christina Aguilera—performed one song each in hopes of making it to the top three and performing next week in the finals! Making it through rounds of blind auditions, battle rounds and knockouts, the voters now have the challenge of selecting the top three!

Up first: Team Adam’s James Wolpert, coming back from a bad week after using the Instant Save. Assigned by Levine, Wolpert had U2’s “With or Without You,” as his make or break track for Monday night. Leaving the struggles in the past, James Wolpert earned a standing ovation from Adam Levine who claimed, “that was even beyond what I thought you could do.” Rival judge and Levine’s best friend, Blake Shelton stated the strong moment was exactly what Wolpert needed and might have dug him “out of the hole.”

As Levine’s second contestant Will Champlin took the stage to perform “Carry On” by fun., proving he was having a good time up on the stage which will definitely help him go a long way! According to Adam, “he definitely thinks he did well because he’s so hard on himself,” to which he continued to say, “that delights me.” There’s absolutely nothing wrong with delighting Adam Levine; after all, he was just named the Sexiest Man Alive! CeeLo Green, the only judge who doesn’t have a contestant in the top five, took a page out of Justin Bieber’s book as he referred to Champlin’s performance as “swaggy.”

Christina Aguilera’s team was up next as she assigned Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” to her last remaining singer, Jacquie Lee. Expecting an “inspirational” moment, Aguilera was “blown away” by Lee’s take on the song and just wanted to “press replay.” Jacquie Lee’s performance hit a sweet spot in CeeLo Green’s heart as he told her, “just when I think I’m jaded, you remind me that this all belongs to me, and we belong to each other,” in reference to his lack of team members to cheer on.

Blake Shelton’s team member, Cole Vosbury, was next to hit The Voice stage as he was accompanied by a piano and a beard that looks like it’s survived numerous No Shave Novembers! Performing Garth Brooks’ version of Billy Joel’s “Shameless,” Vosbury was quick to show off his impressive vocal tone. Shelton responded to Cole’s performance with, “Mission accomplished, dude!” after Vosbury met his goal of figuring out “who you are and what you want to do.”

With four contestants already taking the stage, it became Tessanne Chin’s turn as Adam Levine’s third team member in the semifinals. Singinig “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with her expected passion, she gave an elegant performance despite in-ear monitor issues! Adam Levine was quite satisfied with Tessanne’s performance, saying, “I’ve never been speechless on this show before” and calling her performance “probably the most flawless and graceful performance I’ve ever heard on the show.” Not a tough comment to hear right before the finals!

Monday night’s show was a night worth remembering as the top five earned their stripes and compete for the top spot! Finding the weak link is a difficult task but it’s up to America to decide who will be in the top three! With the finalists revealed in tonight’s telecast, we’ll be watching! Will you?
