As the epic 156-date “Believe” World Tour and the #MusicMondays series both reach their conclusion, Justin Bieber prepares for a new era and you could say he’s pretty confident about it.

Fitting, then, that the tenth and final #MusicMondays release is an outstandingly sexy come-on of a track entitled, “Confident” featuring Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper ) which see’s our boy allude to his preference for a lady who won’t hold back. A reggae-infused hip-hop bassline carries the sexual desire along like the sway of his intended’s hips under his gaze “She’s got my attention, she’s confident” he sings with his sublime, crisp vocals. He see’s a woman who is happy in her own skin, she’s letting go and he can’t hide his desire . He’s “hypnotised” by the way she moves, she’s the ultimate turn-on for him:

“Feels so good damn, and I don’t know why
I’m addicted, something like a headache
Got me twisted, but still I gotta have it
Explosive, explosive (I could still smell her perfume)
It’s not hard to notice, that I’m open
Hypnotized by the way she moves”

“Confident” is a sexual fantasy transformed into reality through music and it works.  It’s as if we’ve been given 4 minutes inside the singers’ mind while he’s watching this woman, his thoughts are all-consuming, his mind is racing and he’s managed to convey the rush of lust-filled adrenaline through the lyrics:

“Then she started dancing, sexual romancing
Nasty but she fancy, lipstick on my satin sheets
What’s your nationality? I wonder if there’s more of you
She’s got my attention, she’s confident”

The previous #MusicMonday tracks have seen Justin add a significant amount of personal heft to his lyrics. The “Journals” thus far, being the story of a troubled heart. “Confident” however, has shifted the mood, we’re moving on and what better way to start a new chapter than by bringing in the hot newcomer to the rap world; Chance.

Chance brings his fabulous and fitting contribution to “Confident” towards the end of the track:

“Tattoos, piercings and she just learned to twerk
She ain’t gotta heart or a ass, just her brains, gotta ask cause her ass on a learning curve
And she love to earn the verb, I mean burn the work
That’s only legal with a doctors note
Real deep pockets like a doctors clothes
Stay fitted like Diddy, hair back tryna rock the boat
She the first mate wanna rock the boat
She never forget to ride like a bicycle
She like planes, trains, chains with icicles
It goes her, blank blank, and rock & roll
She say “I KNOW, honey bunny that’s a funny thing”
Watch her twerk for a goodfella
She money dance with the money team”

In the words of “Spin”  the 19-year-old Chicagoan “is, along with a number of other youthful word nerds (and long-gestating veterans), pulling “lyricism” out of the codified pit of “real hip-hop” cliché and throwing it across every nook and cranny of the rap landscape.”. Small wonder, then, that Spin recently named him their Rapper of the Year; his 2013 mixtape “Acid Rap” being the focus of the praise.

“Confident” isn’t simply the conclusion of the #MusicMondays series, it’s a stand alone single which will have a video to accompany it in the not-too-distant future, as confirmed by Scooter Braun’s tweet on December 2nd “@electradrews @justinbieber next week. It is the big single and we are shooting a video for it. Amazing song next Monday” . This was further re-inforced by Justin’s post on Instagram, showing the Canadian rehearsing some breath-takingly slick and sexy dance moves to the track under the ever-creative, instructional eye of his choreographer; Nick DeMoura.

Occasionally it comes to pass that a pivotal figure in the music industry will become the star on whose decisions all others depend. In 2013, in the R&B world, that star has been Justin Bieber. The #MusicMondays series (whilst incredibly well-supported world-wide by the fans) have largely gone under the mainstream radar. But, the R&B/hip-hop world have been paying attention, fully aware of Bieber’s giant-killing potential in the industry. After all, everyone knows the story behind the 19-year-old Ontario native who grew up posting impressive covers of Boyz II Men and Usher on YouTube. It would be a foolish person indeed who didn’t notice the R&B naturailty of the youngster even then. Besides, when you have the likes of Big Sean, Diplo, Lil Wayne, R. Kelly (and of course, our hot newcomer; Chance) all willing to spit/sing lyrics alongside you, you know you’ve got it right.

The track is bold, it’s sexy, he’s not shy (and we’re not complaining). “Confident” is perhaps also an ideal mirror for his vision for the future of his music. He’s held steady in his belief in himself and what his capabilities are. And, whilst the superstar is adept at covering many genres of music, he’s already proved his R&B prowess over these past 10 weeks. So, this track is the start of a logical progression, one which he intends to excel at. But then, Bieber never does things by halves, an extremely strong character, he has always put 100% into his work. He’s clearly driven by passion, but some might argue the adversity of this past year has made him stronger still. As Benjamin Disraeli once said: “There is no education like adversity”. Indeed, and Justin has proved time and time again that he’s a fighter. His best weapon? His music.

As Justin tweeted on 6th December:

“The next 20 days Expect the Unexpected. #music #content #movies #giveback u have no idea :)”

Scooter Braun first hinted that we would get a “Journals” album come December 16th when he sent a direct message to a fan earlier this week!! The album will feature all the original #MusicMondays tracks alongside 5 new songs and will be available on iTunes with a ‘Complete My Album’ function.

So, as we wave goodbye to the Believe era and reminisce while we watch the “Believe” Movie on theatre screens this Christmas, expect the unexpected, because this is just the beginning and I can say that with extreme confidence.
