What Makes The Perfect Belieber?

November 21, 2013

If my three years as a fan of Justin Bieber or “Belieber” have taught me anything, it’s this; every other Belieber has their own opinion on what makes the perfect fan.

I discovered Justin on the UK X-Factor on December 14, 2010 and consequently spent the rest of the night and well into the morning YouTubing the Canadian superstar and smiling a mile wide at every song, every strum of the guitar and every candid video.

But here’s controversy for you, I was a hater before that moment. Well, not so much a full-blown anti, more of an ill-informed pessimist.

You see, I’d never heard the music, therefore I judged. But since music speaks for itself, Justin is now a firm favourite of mine, something which I have previously explained in an article I wrote a while back: “Justin Bieber: A Passion For Music”.

With all of this being said, I do not consider myself to be a perfect Belieber. As mentioned in that article, I do support Justin in every aspect of his career and I enjoy doing it. But that doesn’t make me better than another fan. Yes, I enjoy gifting his music, books, etc.. to those who can’t afford it, but that’s a personal choice and not everyone can afford to do that. To be honest, it was Justin who taught me to do that anyway (cunning fellow that he is) because his mantra of “#GivingBack is rewarding” really is true. Nothing better than making a fellow Belieber smile when you gift them a song.

There lies an important issue with a fan base as large as Justin’s. We are made up of millions of people from all over the world, different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs and circumstances. Being able to help another fan if they need it doesn’t make you a better Belieber, but it’s something that I see taking place every day and it warms my heart. It’s not just the gifting of music either; on any given day you can see groups helping someone to meet Justin, or it can be something as simple as group support for someone who is going through a tough time. A simple message of support can mean a lot to a person, words are very powerful.

Beliebers as a whole are also as cunning as a fox in winter. Music is demanded at radio with military organisation. Currently, Beliebers outside of the US and Canada are coming together to ensure Justin’s new movie “Believe” will be shown in cinemas worldwide by contacting the relevant distributors for their country. Those Beliebers are determined and it WILL happen.

The recent Hollywood Reporter article highlighted another amazing fact about Beliebers. Collectively, we have helped Justin donate around $13Million to charity, largely due to the donations of $1 from the sale of every ticket over the course of Justin’s two world tours. Everyone who attended a concert is a part of that. It really is incredible how we can achieve that, together.

As wonderful as that may be, it doesn’t matter whether you’ve seen Justin in concert several times, once or perhaps never. If you love the music, you are the perfect Belieber. It’s that simple. Guess that means I am a perfect Belieber after all.

I’m pretty certain Justin thinks we all are.
