One Direction has become synonymous with breaking records, apparently. Their first two albums “Up All Night” and “Take Me Home” went straight to Number One, making them the first UK boy band to achieve that feat. And currently, Louis, Harry, Liam, Niall, and Zayn have been smashing literally everything that they have been doing in recent weeks. Their new perfume “Our Moment” has already been named the fastest selling perfume of all time (It was just released this week). Their book One Direction: Where We Are: Our Band, Our Story: 100% Official  is soaring up its respective charts worldwide as well, but their biggest smash currently is their new movie “One Direction: This Is Us”.

This Is Us held its world premieres in London and New York last week and officially opened to worldwide audiences last Thursday. Seeing as the boys’ have been in the Number One spot with both of their albums “Up All Night” and “Take Me Home”, it makes sense that they would want to bust the box office wide open and achieve that feat as well. The leading contender in the box offices prior to release was “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”, and “This Is Us” nearly knocked the current title holder off its pedestal. Despite being the top ticket seller in ANY movie on Friday and Saturday, “This Is Us” came just $2 million short of the number one spot. From its opening night through Labor Day weekend, “This Is Us” was able to bring in over $18 million while “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” brought in $20 million, which brought its total to over $79.3 million.

However, across the pond in England, “This Is Us” does indeed hold the number one spot for 1D’s homeland box office. The boys managed to nearly triple the second place film in sales, bringing in almost 3.5 Million pounds.  While One Direction may not have been able to topple Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” in the States, it DID manage to smash every concert film before it in England (excluding Michael Jackson’s: This Is It) by over 400,000 pounds, and that might feel even better to the hometown heroes.
