After a seemingly never-ending wait, Lady Gaga has FINALLY returned to our music charts with her newest single “Applause”!

The first single from her highly anticipated album “ARTPOP” (which releases in November) was actually supposed to be released tomorrow morning (Aug 19) to avoid having to compete with Katy Perry’s newest single “Roar”. But thanks to a few technical geniuses, bits and pieces of “Applause” were released all over the internet last week, forcing the “Queen of Pop” to declare a “pop music emergency” and release the new single a week early!

Gaga, who’s been absent from the music charts for a little over a year, took to Twitter on August 12th announcing:

DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW QUALITY LEAKS…WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY…MONSTERS SPREAD THE WORD! POP MUSIC EMERGENCY #ODAYSTILLAPPLAUSE MY NEW SINGLE COMES OUT TODAY. 911 SPREAD THE MESSAGE!”

Gaga’s 39 million followers from all walks of social media converged and completely ate up Applause, instantly taking it to Number One on iTunes in a matter of moments. What I absolutely love about Lady Gaga is no matter how many times she is on the radio, when her new music hits the airways, she absolutely fangirls. And I’m not talking about your average fangirling either! I’m talking “Tyler Oakley Over One Direction” level fangirling! If you were on reading Lady Gaga’s Twitter Aug 12, you could see that her tweets were absolutely real and she almost couldn’t believe that “Applause” was being received as well as it was.

I’M ON THE RADIO I CAN’T BELIEVE IT IT FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR *APPLAUSE,* WE ARE SO HAPPY YOU LOVE IT,” the star tweeted live on August 12th.

Due to its early release date, “Applause” will now compete with Katy Perry’s “Roar” for the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 this week. If you were to go take a peak at the iTunes chart currently, it seems like “Roar” is sitting comfortably in the Number One spot there, while “Applause” falls to Number 7, after a week of being released. But monsters shouldn’t fret. If “Applause” was able to jump into Number One after an unexpected early release, who knows what the original would’ve done!

Regardless of which single takes the Number One spot, we can all appreciate Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” being knocked from the top. Radio overplay does NOT help with sales. Trust me.

Monsters everywhere can currently purchase “Applause” on iTunes, AND they are able to pre-order Lady Gaga’s album “ARTPOP” as well. Gaga’s newest single is ready to be heard, and the lyric video is posted below for your enjoyment! (Side note: Gaga took to Twitter AGAIN last week, hinting that she would NOT be at a certain drag club, that she would NOT be recording her lyric video, and that she did NOT want fans to be in it. Sneaky, Gaga. But nonetheless, fans showed — as expected — and the lyric video was shot. It was very creative on Gaga’s part and I applaud her for it! <– See what I did there? 😉

But who will take the Number One spot? Ehh, that’s for YOU to decide!
