Drake Releases “Hold On, We’re Going Home”

August 8, 2013

For most people, Monday means going back to work and it’s usually the most-dreaded day of the week. Drake isn’t like most people; this week, he hosted the rap show of the year on Monday night in Toronto. The OVO festival took over the city and Sara has provided the Weknowthedj recap at http://weknowthedj.com/2013/08/what-you-missed-at-ovo-fest-2013/. Drizzy is releasing his next album, Nothing Was the Same, on September 17th and the morning of August 6th was the perfect time for the Toronto native to premiere the album’s first official single, Hold On, We’re Going Home.

The Breakfast Club on New York City’s Power 105.1FM got the Drake exclusive and after listening to the track, it’s definitely unexpected.  Unexpected doesn’t necessarily mean bad though, especially in this situation because Drake absolutely killed it! With tracks like Versace, 5AM in Toronto, and Started From the Bottom, Drake is known for being gritty but this time, he’s switching gears up a little bit. Drake has been quoted saying, “It’s not a rap record, it’s not Versace, and it’s not Started From the Bottom. In approaching this album I was like man, it would be great if we had a record that was played at weddings in ten years. Something that just had timeless writing, timeless melody.” Timeless was the first word that came to mind when I first heard Hold On, We’re Going Home; Drake isn’t rapping on this track, instead he’s trying to lock in his love with his vocals. We’ve posted the Soundcloud of the track below so be sure to give that a listen and tweet us at @weknowthedj and let us know your thoughts!
