J Cole’s “Born Sinner” Took It’s Claim at No. 1

July 19, 2013

After three weeks, the fight for the top spot ended as J Cole’s album “Born Sinner” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Born Sinner” is J Cole’s sophomore album and was released on June 18, 2013. For the first two weeks “Born Sinner” sat behind Kanye West’s debuting album “Yeezus” and then sat behind Wale’s “The Gifted” in the third week.

While it is rare for an album to climb to the number one spot, in its fourth week “Born Sinner” rose to the top after selling 58,000 copies in its third week. And according to Billboard, there have only been 75 albums prior to “Born Sinner” that did not début at the number one spot but rose to the top in the weeks that followed. This is Cole’s second album to reach the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Although the album sales are dropping, they are declining at a much slower pace than compared to “Yeezus” which dropped on the same day.

J Cole took to twitter to express his excitement and gratitude to his fans for helping him reach the number one spot tweeting “3 weeks later. #1 Album in the country. Born Sinner. Thank You.”

And unfortunately, we hope J Cole enjoyed his moment at the top spot considering Jay Z’s album “Holy Grail” dropped and took and took the number one spot the week following
