John Mayer Releases NEW music!

With summer just started, the timing couldn’t be better for a John Mayer serenade. From his upcoming record Paradise Valley, Mayer has released the first single titled “Paper Dolls”.

There is numerous speculation that the track is written as a rebuttal to his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s “Dear John” (which is a supposed chronicle of their relationship). But we’ll direct the focus to the track rather than the rumours.

After first watching the clip, I was forced to re-watch because I lost all focus of the song and was only paying attention to the prancercise expert, Joanna Rohrback. It seems Mayer has hopped on the bandwagon to America’s newest craze (I don’t quite understand it yet). Incorporating prancercising into his video, he adds silliness to the otherwise subtle heartbreak feel of the song, built around circuitous guitar lick.

Apart from the goofy video we can’t help but fall in love with Mayer’s soft spoken singing voice as he gracefully hums out lyrics like “Paper doll come try it on, step out of that black chiffon” and “You’re like 22 girls in one, and none of them know what they’re running from.”

While we have yet to receive a release date for Paradise Valley, this first single is coming to us only weeks after Mayer announced to us his progress in working on the follow-up to 2012’s Born and Raised. For the die-hard fans, keep a close watch on his YouTube page as he has promised us many update clips from the studio as he records for this next album.

On top of the new album, Mayer is also set for a massive summer tour which will officially mark his return to the stage after his undergoing two rounds of surgery to his throat. His return will kick off on July 6th at Summerfest at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Take a look at the goofy video below and perhaps close your eyes and have a second listen to take in the music:
