Top of the Charts- Billboard Top 100 Recap

May 17, 2013

Every Thursday, Billboard releases the updated Hot 100 chart of the week’s most popular current songs of all genres. The music industry is constantly changing, and so are the rankings on the Hot 100 chart.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ newest single might be called Can’t Hold Us, but the duo are definitely holding their own on the charts. Can’t Hold Us is in the number one spot, for the second week in a row. They’re not just hanging out in the number one position right now; they’re also breaking Billboard records! The Can’t Take Us number one makes Macklemore and Ryan Lewis the first duo to take its first two singles to No. 1 in the Hot 100’s fifty-five year history! Congratulations, that’s quite an accomplishment!

After peaking at No.1 for three weeks, Give Me A Reason has the No. 2 spot for the second week in a row. This is the second week that the P!nk and Nate Reuss song has been in the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 spot this week belongs to Justin Timberlake and Mirrors. Mirrors is the Hot 100’s top Airplay Gainer for the fourth consecutive week, making this is longest winning streak. Mirrors is also the Hot 100’s top Airplay Gainer for the fourth straight week, marking the longest Airplay Gainer winning streak for JT. Bruno Mars remains near the chart’s top this week in the No. 4 rank. When I Was Your Man has gone down a spot on the charts this week but it has also passed 3 million sales since being released, becoming Bruno Mars’ sixth title to do so. Rounding out the top five is Rihanna featuring Mikkey Ekko with Stay, moving down one spot this week.

Selena Gomez has appeared on the Billboard charts eleven times since her first single in 2009. This week, the twenty-year old reached the Hot 100 top 10 for the first time in her career. Come & Get It hit the No. 6 spot and continues to drastically jump up the charts since the May 7th release of the music video. Selena kicks off her “Stars Dance” tour on August 14th heading to Canada, Europe and the United States. Selena will be hitting the BBMA stage on Sunday night to perform Come & Get It.

Thrift Shop gets the lucky No. 7 spot this week after being on the Billboard chart for 32 weeks and claiming the No.1 spot for six weeks. The song that might be one of my favorites to jam out to in the car is the 20th song to pass 6 million downloads in the past ten years. Between that accomplishment and their No.1 spot, I think we can all agree that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are having a good week. The duo will be performing Thrift Shop at this weekend’s BBMAs, so be sure to keep an eye out for that, it’s guaranteed to be entertaining.

Radioactive by Imagine Dragons holds the No. 8 title this week and dominates Hot Rock Songs for an eight week. Icona Pop and Charli XCX’s debut hit I Love It falls from No. 7 to No. 9 this week. Florida Georgia Line rounds out the top ten this week with Cruise, which has passed 3 million sales to date.
