Emile Sande Topples UK Beatles Record

May 1, 2013
On Sunday 28th April Scottish singer-songwriter Emile Sande’s début album ‘Our Version Of Events’ beat the record previously held by The Beatles for the past 50 years for spending more consecutive weeks in the top 10 than any other début album.  This Sunday saw it enter its 63rd week beating The Beatles’ ‘Please Please Me’ which stayed in the top 10 for 62 weeks during 1963 and 1964.
After hearing of her achievement a humble Emile said “It feels quite surreal to even have your name mentioned in the same sentence as The Beatles. For a record to stay there for so long it means that people have connected with it so that’s how I’m enjoying celebrating this record.”
Following in the footsteps of the Liverpool boys whose title she has just surpassed, Emile is soon to embark on conquering the States “I’m really excited about taking music over to the States because it’s a brand new challenge. There’s different formats over there so you have to understand the market, the people, you really have to take into account how massive the place is … It’s a brand new adventure and it’s chapter two of this whole big thing.”
Sande scored three number one hits in the UK last year with ‘Read All About It’,  ‘Next to Me’, and ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ (with Labrinth) and she sang at the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics.  It will be interesting to see if America embraces her in the same way they adored Adele. It’s a different style, but the music is certainly compelling and who knows, she may even topple a few records over there too.
