Jay-Z Addresses Rumors in an “Open Letter”

April 15, 2013

Although Prince William and Princess Kate have the title of British Royalty under lock-and-key, Beyoncé and Jay-Z are pure Hip-Hop royalty! The duo rarely addresses rumors but when they do, they don’t hold back. The most recent speculation surrounds the couple’s trip to Cuba for their fifth wedding anniversary; due to a trading embargo with Cuba, regular visits to the island by average citizens are illegal under US laws. The couple received permission from the US Treasury Department to travel to Cuba, but the government consent didn’t stop the criticism.

Between the criticism from the trip to Cuba and fact that Jay-Z sold his share in the Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z took to the studio to address the rumors. This past Thursday, Hov released “Open Letter,” a track full of disses toward the trip to Cuba and stories about his new sports management company. With lyrics such as “Politicians never did sh-t for me / except lie to me, distort history,” Jay-Z is dissing those that criticized the hip-hop powerhouse’s trip to the island. Another verse off of Open Letter, proving Hov is the head of the hip-hop game is, “”I woulda moved the Nets to Brooklyn for free/ Except I made millions off you f–king dweebs/ I still own the building, I’m still keeping my seats/You buy that bullsh-t, you better keep your receipts.” Jay-Z isn’t only keeping his seats at the Barclays Center, he’s also keeping his title as the top of the hip-hop game! “Open Letter” is posted below, so be sure to check out the dissing song! Also, be sure to tweet us at @weknowthedj to let us know your thoughts on Hov’s Open Letter.
