‘Buckwild’: Confirmed Cancellation

April 13, 2013

Just one short month later, the reality television series on MTV, that gained popularity quickly endured bad news.

The details surrounding the cancellation of Buckwild are truly tragic. The series focuses on nine young adults who are out living their lives in the way they know best, using their rural environment around them.

Shain Gandee, a 21-year-old star of the show, went off-roading with his uncle and another person on March 31st, 2013. After quite awhile of no word from them, they were reported missing and a search party was arranged. Not until 31 hours later were they found, unfortunately not alive. Shain’s truck was partially engulfed in mud, with the exhaust pipes covered. Autopsies confirmed that all three died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

In addition to the death of Shain Gandee, Buckwild faces a lot of controversy and drama due to Salwa Amin taken into custody during a drug raid and Michael Burford arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Despite all of this, the producer of the show, JP Williams, was infuriated about having the show cancelled. However, MTV did confirm that they will not be moving on with a season two, but there will be a special edition aired (that was shot before Gandee’s death) called Buckwild: WV to the NYC.

During its first season, Buckwild managed to debut with 2.49 million viewers. Clearly, the show was very popular among viewers, and the shocking news surrounding it will be of great heartbreak to the fans.
