2013 Juno Awards: Carly Rae Jepsen Wins Big

April 24, 2013

The Juno Awards Show is basically the Canadian equivalent of The Grammy’s. All Canadian music stars ranging from Drake to Justin Bieber have all been apart of this annual music extravaganza, but this year’s show all belonged to one Carly Rae Jepsen. The “Call Me Maybe” star has quickly earned a huge following in the last year, and the 2013 Juno’s did no more than acknowledge her achievements. She has made sure that “Call Me Maybe” will not make her a one hit wonder and this past Sunday reflected it all.

After being nominated for five awards, Jepsen took home the holy grail of The Juno’s: Album of the Year. With a little help from pop superstar Justin Bieber, who introduced Carly to the United States and the rest of the world for that matter, her hit single “Call Me Maybe” took home the award for Single Of The Year, and her latest album “Kiss” took home Pop Album of the Year as well. “It’s crazy when you think one song can change your life…” And it certainly has.

Justin Bieber, with four nominations himself, nabbed the Fan Choice Award, because you just can’t have a Canadian award show without the Beliebers leaving their mark SOMEWHERE!

The band Metric swept the boards as well, grabbing awards as a band (Alternative Album of the Year and Recording Package of the Year), as well as their guitarist Jimmy Shaw being awarded Producer of the Year himself.

Ontario producer, The Weeknd had a good night himself, being awarded R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, as well as Breakthrough Artist of the year.

The 2013 Juno Award winners were announced in a two-day extravaganza, with over 30 awards being given on Saturday. The remaining awards were given out on a live show, hosted by Michael Bublé. Carly Rae Jepsen, Metric and others were among the live performers.
