Ariana Grande’s Debut Hit “The Way”

March 31, 2013

Balloons, cameras, bubbly personalities, kissing, and more balloons! That’s just about almost everything you will find in the Ariana Grande’s new music video for her breakout hit “The Way” featuring Mac Miller.

If you aren’t aware already, let me refresh your mind about who this peppy brunette is. She co-stars as Cat Valentine on the hit Nickelodeon show Victorious and will soon be starring in a new spin-off called Sam & Cat (or you can read this article).

Now “The Way” is the singer’s debut single (released March 26th), said to appear on her album releasing sometime this year, Daydreamin’. Grande has released covers and features, but never one to receive this much buzz. Within eight hours of its release, the song skyrocketed to the number one spot on iTunes. This is the first time a Nickelodeon star has ever held this title! Not too shabby for a debut single, huh?

Listening to the song, it is kind of impressive how much vocal strength Ariana Grande has in such a petite body. Personally, I heard a hint of Mariah Carey in her voice, especially with the whistle tones towards the end. Mac Miller’s feature on the single came as a surprise, but nevertheless he delivered incredibly.

Just two days later, Grande released the video for “The Way”, and the video reflects a lot around the singer’s personality; cute and high-spirited! Throughout the video, scenes vary from Grande and Miller surrounded by a vast amount of balloons to adorable scenes of Grande having pictures taken by her “bad boy” (as noted in the song). The duo is clearly feeling a connection during the video and this is pretty justified by the kiss at the end. It was one of those pretty intense, unexpected, odd, yet actually cute things, you know? But mainly unexpected.

Well I’ll let you judge for yourself. Watch the video below and let us know what you think. “The Way” featuring Mac Miller is also available on iTunes, so check that out!
