The 2013 People’s Choice Awards Play-By-Play

January 11, 2013

On Wednesday, January 8th, the 39th annual People’s Choice Awards (PCA’s) took over CBS. The award show took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California where many celebrities, along with their fans came out to attend the show. This award show in particular was important to the celebs who won because their fans were the voters! With a strong choice of nominees, the show got intense due to the multiple deserving celebrities in each category. If you didn’t find time to watch, here is a recap of what happened last night and how it all went down from beginning to end.

Usually every award show has a celebrity host and it always adds something more when they are funny… so what better way to host a show than to have The Big Bang Theory’s, Kaley Cuoco host this year’s PCA’s. Not only is she absolutely HILARIOUS, but she is gorgeous and such a smooth talker.

With an amazing host, the show kicked off with a great start as the first presenter was announced. As Julianne Hough entered the stage, she presented the award for “Favorite Comedic Movie Actress” to Jennifer Aniston. Aniston accepted the award, with emotion in the air while thanking the fans. Needless to say, that engagement ring was the only thing I was looking at… yes, it’s a rock!

Next up was the award for “Favorite Country Artist” which was presented by Olivia Munn (New Girl) and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory). With a group of deserving country artists, Taylor Swift took home the PCA and can now add it to her very large trophy case. Next, the 2 main characters from Supernatural, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, took the stage to accept their award for “Favorite Sci-Fi Fantasy Show”, as well as present the award for “Favorite Band,” which was awarded to Maroon 5.

Immediately after, Criminal Minds star Shemar Moore took the stage to introduce Alicia Keys’ performance. Alicia sang “Girl On Fire” on the piano than went directly into a new song called “New Day”. She killed her performance with her outstanding vocal abilities and charisma on stage.

If you don’t know who Ellen DeGeneres is by now, you must be living under a rock because she is the funniest television host out there. It is obvious how many people love her being that the award she accepted for “Favorite Daytime TV Host” was her 13th People’s Choice Award! As Ellen accepted her award she thanked everyone, and then presented the awards of “Favorite Comedic TV Actress” and “Favorite Comedic TV Actor” to Lea Michele and Chris Colfer from the hit television series, Glee.

As the beautiful vampire, Ian Somerhalder from “Vampire Diaries” took the stage alongside Casey Wilson, they presented the award for “Favorite Comedic Movie Actor” which was awarded to the hilarious Adam Sandler. Of course, Sandler accepted his speech in a funny way, but it’s not like we weren’t expecting it, right?

As Sandler exited the stage, all the cameras’ attention focused on Rachel Lee Cook who introduced the second performance of the night, Jason Aldean. Aldean got the party started with his popular single “My Kinda Party”… pun intended. He sure did rock the stage and get the audience off their feet! Soon after, Monica Potter and Anthony Anderson came on stage sporting extremely weird costumes. They begin to break dance and “flash mob” since the award was for “Favorite Breakout Artist”. The duo added some comical relief to keep the audience intrigued and entertained. Of course, the very talented ‘man band’, The Wanted jumped up on stage, excited as ever and accepted their award.

Next up was the award for “Favorite Movie Actress,” which was presented to Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence also won the award for “Favorite Face of Heroism” for her outstanding performance in The Hunger Games. Immediately after, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jason O’Mara presented the award for “Favorite Pop Artist” to the beautiful and talented Katy Perry. Miss KP also walked away with 3 more PCA’s including, “Favorite Female Artist”, “Favorite Music Video” and “Favorite Music Fan Following”. Needless to say, she had a great night!

The next two very important awards for “Favorite Dramatic TV Actress” and “Favorite Dramatic TV Actor” went to Ellen Pompeo from Grey’s Anatomy and Nathan Fillion from Castle. Actor, Robert Downey, Jr. Also walked away with 2 very prestigious awards including, “Favorite Movie Actor” and “Favorite Superhero”.

With the amount of disasters that have happened over the years from the Tsunami, to Hurricane Katrina, and now Hurricane Sandy, many celebrities have made efforts to help those in need. But, there is one actress that stuck out the most, who goes by the name, Sandra Bullock. Bullock knew the amount of schools suffering from the devastation of the storm and she gave back.  Due to her kind nature and warm heart, the “Favorite Humanitarian” award was given to Sandra on behalf of all the money she donated. As Sandra made her way to the stage, she walked up with the biggest smile on her face. She looked gorgeous as always, wearing a black pencil skirt with a blue lacy strapless shirt tucked in at the waist, as well as barbie-pink heels and pink lipstick. As she accepted the award she got extremely emotional talking about what she witnessed in New Orleans and how devastating it was. There is not a doubt in my mind that Sandra Bullock was the ideal person to accept such a prestigious award.

As the show was coming to an end, there was still one more performance. Super model, Heidi Klum introduced the breathtaking, Christina Aguilera to the stage where she performed a very heart-felt and emotional song off her new album, “Lotus” called, “A Blank Page”. Not only is her voice remarkable, but she is also very easy on the eyes! Christina also accepted the award for “People’s Voice”.

Not a minute went by before Taylor Swift took the stage to present The Hunger Games franchise with the award for “Favorite Movie”. The film also won, “Favorite Movie Franchise”, “Favorite On-Screen Chemistry” and “Favorite Action Movie”.

With the last award of the night given to The Big Bang Theory for “Favorite Network TV Comedy”, host Kaley Cuoco got up on stage and accepted her award with the rest of the cast and crew. As the show was just about to end Heidi Klum and somebody dressed up as a monkey came flashing across the stage on segway’s to end the show. In my opinion, this award show will be hard to beat in 2013.
