One Direction releases “Kiss You” music video

January 9, 2013

After weeks of tantalizing sneak peeks and teaser clips, the full-fledged music video for One Direction’s new single “Kiss You” was finally released yesterday for the viewing pleasures of Directioners across the globe. What begins as a motorcycle ride in front of an obvious green screen morphs into an all-out spoof of a video, featuring the five-part band in an array of humorous and nonsensical outfits: everything from shirtless surfers, bundled-up ski babes, and convicts dressed to the nines in striped jumpsuits.

“I think it’s as you’ve never seen the boys before, kind of studio-based,” Director Vaughan Arnell tells MTV News. “I think in the past, the boys have always been outside, it’s always been kind of location-based, and this is the first studio-based idea I’ve done with them.”

Arnell, who also directed the videos for 1D’s “Live While We’re Young” and “Little Things” certainly wasn’t kidding when he described the video as one in which we see the boys like never before. While One Direction is known for being carefree and goofy in their music videos, “Kiss You” extends that mindset even further, showcasing the boys in a silly, seemingly effortless, and highly entertaining light. Everything about the video – from the comical facial expressions to the intermittent photoshoot-type shots – evokes a very parodied nature. It’s clear the band is only making fun of themselves, but hey – that’s part of what makes One Direction so irresistible in the first place.
