MTV’s Restore the Shore: a charitable effort geared towards Hurricane Sandy relief

November 20, 2012

On Thursday, November 15th, MTV premiered “Restore the Shore”, an hour-long program centered around a telethon which aimed to raise public awareness about the effects of Hurricane Sandy. With appearances from MTV show cast members and contributions from renowned names in music, the program encouraged viewers and telethon participants to donate funds in order to provide relief for Sandy’s victims.

The cast of “Jersey Shore” opened the show, working the telethon lines as well as conveying their personal connections to the disaster. Several clips were shown on the special of the cast members visiting the areas affected by Sandy and interviewing families that called such areas home.

“Honestly, seeing and talking to those people, I didn’t know how to react to somebody who just lost everything. Grown people, grown men crying right next to me, and what can you say to somebody who just lost their entire life?” Vinny remarked.

Snooki, who toured the area via helicopter, tearfully recalled how “just seeing the boardwalk not there was scary.”

Following the “Jersey Shore” members’ appearances, the telethon hosted stars from other hit shows on the MTV network – “Teen Wolf”, “Teen Mom”, and “Awkward.” Pre-recorded messages encouraging viewers to donate and show their support for the Hurricane Sandy victims garnished the show, flooding in from such big names as Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Kim Kardashian, No Doubt, Ludacris, Adam Levine, Britney Spears, Simon Cowell, Fun., and Kelly Clarkson.

Danish singer-songwriter Oh-Land teamed up with alternative rock band Gym Class Heroes for a performance of the song “Fighter”, while Phillip Phillips moved viewers with his song “Home”.

To take part in the movement and to show your support for the millions of people affected by Hurricane Sandy, make a $10 donation today by texting SHORE to 85944. Sandy may have had a disastrous impact on the East Coast, but together, we can relieve that impact and rebuild the lives that have been affected. Together, we can restore the shore.
