Canada’s Grey Cup Super Halftime Show

November 27, 2012

The Grey Cup is the Canadian version of the NFL’s Super Bowl and just like the Super Bowl, the Grey Cup has a star-studded lineup including, Marianas Trench, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Justin Bieber.

The show started off with broadcaster Brian Williams (a different Brian Williams, a Canadian Brian Williams) introducing the legendary Gordon Lightfoot. Lightfoot performed “Canadian Rainroad Trilogy.”

Then Williams introduced the crowd to the new generation of Canadian musicians. Marianas Trench was the first performer and they performed their single “Stutter.”

Next was Carly Rae Jepsen. She performed “This Kiss” and “Call Me Maybe.”  She also was spotted with a bright pink mic stand, which was a birthday present for her. She received it at the Detroit show last week when she turned 27 and the audience sang her “Happy Birthday.”

Last up was Justin Bieber. He started out with performing “Boyfriend.” Right before he broke out into the dance segment, he screamed “Swaggy” which I’m sure got all the beliebers excited. He followed “Boyfriend” with his new single “Beauty and a Beat.” While there was no Nicki Minaj, the accompanying lights and graphics on stage were fantastic and matched the music perfectly.

Did you catch the Grey Cup? What was your favorite part of the halftime show? Are you rooting for Calgary or Toronto? Let us know in the comments!
