Millions of music fans tuned into MTV tonight to see this year’s Video Music Awards live from the Staples Center in LA.
Rihanna opened the show with a “Cockiness” / “We Found Love” mash-up that was much enjoyed by her fans: half of them got up close and personal with the pop singer when she walked off the stage and into the huge crowd. Did anyone else notice Lil Wayne had headphones on during the song?

Next up, the show’s host Kevin Hart took to the stage escorted by a line of little people and gave his opening monologue, touching on mistakes and picking on various VMA guests.
The first award for Best Pop Video the lovely Katy Perry and went to One Direction for “What Makes You Beautiful.” The group dedicated the award to their fans.

Can I just say that Kevin Hart is HILARIOUS? And pretty short, actually.

Anyway, back to the show. Buddies Miley Cyrus (btw her hair looked pretty tight) and Mac Miller welcomed P!nk to the stage, who began with her oldie “Get The Party Started” and was then lifted up in a harness and flew over the crowd to the stage where she performed her latest single, “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)”. P!nk’s high energy and back-up dancer’s heads being giant lips made it fun to watch.
Chris Brown took the award for Best Male Video for “Turn Up the Music,” which was especially exciting for him because he also directed it. Frank Ocean’s performance of “Thinkin Bout You” from ‘Channel Orange’ was of course soulful and beautiful, and joined by a giant campfire. Many viewers (over 125,000) voted Ocean’s performance as their favorite moment during the show.
Later, Drake won Best Hip Hop Video for “HYFR.” He was accompanied on stage by YMCMB members which included Lil Wayne who was featured on the track and Drake’s competition for the moon man, Nicki Minaj.
Fangirling took to a whole new level when One Direction performed “One Thing.” I’m sure their ears will be ringing for a few days. Bridesmaid’s Rebel Wilson, along with the gorgeous boys of The Wanted, presented the award for Best Female Video. Wilson looked great in a bikini shirt/dress, LOL can’t wait to see Pitch Perfect.

A very surprised Nicki Minaj took home the award for “Starships.” She tweeted soon after “Barbz I’m cryin in my dressin room! Like wtf!??!!!!???!!”
2 Chainz and Weezy’s boxers made the next appearance on the VMA stage, followed by Green Day, who performed their FIFTH VMA set. You would never know that Billie Joe had recently suffered a bad case of dehydration, as he rocked out and encouraged fans to mosh around him.
An exclusive clip from Breaking Dawn- Part Two was shown, which gave everyone chills! The last movie is going to be phenomenal and a lot of hearts are going to heavy once the saga is finally over.

Best New Artist went to… can you guess it? One Direction. The five boys picked up their third moon man of the night thanking their friends, family and crew. But what’s better than these guys? The Fierce Five! The US gymnasts looked lovely as they announced and did some back handsprings for Alicia Keys, who played her new song, “Girl On Fire,” which would make an awesome addition to the next Hunger Games movie soundtrack. Don’t you agree?
Rihanna scooped up the last award for Video of the Year for “We Found Love.” Finishing out the show was the beautiful Taylor Swift & her legs, rocking red lipstick and short shorts as she sang “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” History was made as she performed music from her new album for the first time. I was also excited to see her band dressed the same as they were in the music video. Taylor surprisingly did a little crowd surfing there at the end!

Some fans of the MTV award show were stating that this year’s show just wasn’t the same without pop star, Justin Bieber. No performance or awards for the Biebs. Next year my friend, next year.
