Snoop Dogg – Name Change and Career Change?

August 1, 2012

Formerly known Snoop Dogg, who now goes by the name Snoop Lion is making it known that he is taking a step back from hip hop and venturing into the reggae world. At a recent press conference in New York, Snoop explained his reasons behind the unexpected change in genre. After a trip to Jamaica in February, the former rapper claims to have been reborn, and ‘Bob Marley reincarnated.’  He was renamed Snoop Lion while visiting a temple in Jamaica, “I went to the temple where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, ‘Snoop Dogg’ and he looked me in my eyes and said, ‘No more. You are the light; you are the lion.”

Snoop states that he will not be retiring from hip-hop completely but will be taking a break to explore this new endeavor. “Reggae was calling… it’s a breath of fresh air.  Rap isn’t challenging; it’s not appealing,” he explained to the press. After 10 years of rapping its understandable that the “Gin and Juice” gangster rapper would want to change things up a bit, but I’ll be the first to admit, reggae wouldn’t have been my first guess. Nonetheless, I am very much intrigued, and can’t wait to check out his new album “Reincarnated,” whose release date has yet to be released.
