Lollapalooza 2012

August 8, 2012

With over 150 performances in front of over 90,000 attendees, Lollapalooza 2012 was a complete success.

Lollapalooza took place at Chicago’s Grant Park on the long weekend of August 3rd – 5th. The music genre varied in so many ways; from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, to J.Cole, but the crowd enjoyed every second of it… at least, almost every second. For  two hours the entire crowd of more than 90,000 people were evacuated out of Grant Park due to heavy rain, lightening, and hail. The organizers of Lollapalooza didn’t want to cancel and reschedule anything, so they easily put the day on hold until the weather calmed down. Safety First!

Huge performers made their appearance and definitely lived up to the expectations of the audience. Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean, Red Hot Chili Peppers, J.Cole, Black Keys, The Weekend, Florence and The Machine, and Avicii were just a handful of the performers who got on the wet, rained out stage, and gave the crowd exactly what they wanted – a party.

With more than six stages, fans had the chance to roam around the park and claim a spot at whatever stage they wanted to. Each stage had a band playing on it within all times of the festival, so your options weren’t limited.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers had one of the longest sets throughout the entire weekend, playing their own little concert with 16 songs. Nobody was complaining, as RHCP were considered one of the biggest highlights of the weekend. There was not a minute when the crowd wasn’t going wild for them. You could tell the fans were a little upset when they didn’t get to completely finish their set, because it would have went past the strict curfew of 10:45pm. Their performances were accompanied by studded clothes, fitted baseball caps, and of course, Anthony Kiedis (lead singer) removing his top because of how warm the amiptheatre was.

Something else happened that made this years Lollapalooza extra special – A marriage proposal. The couple met at  Lollapalooza 2009 during Yellow Ostrich’s set, and he proposed to his girlfriend on stage during Yellow Ostrich’s set in 2012. How cute!
