Big Sean Set To Release Detroit Mixtape

August 25, 2012

It’s been a long time coming, but Big Sean has finally announced the release date for his new mixtape ‘Detroit,’ in which the title is paying homage to his hometown! Big Sean isn’t exactly a stranger to mixtapes, however. This is the fourth mixtape in the ‘Finally Famous’ series. The mix tape drops September 5th and although his fans are overly excited for it, some are questioning the release of a mixtape when an album is on its way.

“A lot of people don’t want me to do it because they are saying ‘man, the album is what it is and I don’t know why you want to drop a mixtape,” Big Sean tells Hip-Hop Wired. “But I ain’t doing it to let people know where I’m artistically at, I’m doing an album to let people know where I’m artistically at. I’m doing an album to change the world. I’m doing a mixtape because that’s how I came up.That’s where a lot of my core fan base is, my core believers, and people who believe in me.”

The Detroit rapper explains that the only holdup on the mixtape was to ensure that every track that could have really been used on the upcoming album was actually used. ‘Detroit’ features a load of incredibly talented artists, such as J.Cole, Chris Brown, Juicy J, and Wiz Khalifa.

Along with the mix tape, Kanye West has set out to release an album of collaborations from the G.O.O.D music label. Big Sean tweeted out, “BEFORE my album, the GOOD Music Compilation “Cruel Summer” is coming which is scheduled for next month (Sep. 18th). BUT before that…”

Between the mix tape, his sophomore album, and the collaborative album, Sean surely isn’t slowing down anytime soon and is ready to show that he’s going to be in the game for a long time! What came as a shock is Sean did not like his début album, ‘Finally Famous,’ as much as his listeners probably did. “I ain’t really like it that much,” he told Hip-Hop Wired. “On the first album I wasn’t really in love with every single one.” But he did admit that there was a positive outcome about the début album, adding, “I think my first album had a lot of radio songs on it and that is an important part of things and it is a necessity you have to establish. At least radio knows me now as a presence and now they’d be willing to take more chances on me and that’s what this second album is. It’s all about taking chances.” Couldn’t agree more!
