2012 Teen Choice Awards

July 24, 2012

If you missed out on the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, I hope you had a good reason! This highly anticipated award show was incredible, to say the least. With performances by No Doubt, Flo Rida, Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen, they not only made this an unforgettable night but kept the audience as well as their fans jumping and wanting more.
Well known stars, Demi Lovato and Glee’s Kevin McHale showcased their humorous side as hosts for this year’s Teen Choice Awards. With Demi’s funny comments and Kevin’s quirky personality, they made this show fun for everyone.
With a record high of 134 million votes this year’s awards, the first award of the night went to Ellen DeGeneres for Choice Comedian. Ellen brought up on stage YouTube stars Sophia Grace and Rosie, known for their cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Superbass”. They not only accepted the award with her, but received their very own award which was Choice Web Stars which they gladly accepted… with a few screams here and there of course.
No Doubt was the first performance of the night singing “Settle Down”. Gwen Stefani, the group’s lead singer, wore funky black and white patterned skinny jeans which definitely caught the audience’s attention. This blonde bombshell may be a mother, but that doesn’t mean she’s lost her touch when it comes to performing. No Doubt rocked the audience with their awesome song choice making this performance unforgettable.
With one of the biggest awards at the TCA’s, birthday girl Selena Gomez managed to grasp her hands around the award for Choice Music Group. Not only did she accept her award, immediately after the entire Gibson Amphitheatre began to sing her “Happy Birthday” where she was given cupcakes and sparklers.
Jordin Sparks, Magic Mike’s Adam Rodriguez, as well as The Vampire Diaries Paul Wesley announced the award for Choice Movie Comedy which went to 21 Jump Street. Unfortunately, beau Channing Tatum wasn’t able to accept the award with Jonah Hill. Hill explained to the audience that this award was exceptionally important for both himself and Channing due to the fact that it took five years to produce and make until it was perfect to release; now that’s what you call hard work and dedication.
Flo Rida, with the second performance of the night came out fully fledged. He started his performance with “Whistle” where he merged into “Wild Ones” when Sia, the original featured artist on the track, came out and performed with Flo. With Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D spinning all night, both Flo and Pauly made this performance fun for all.
If you’re a Twilight fan, prepare to get extra excited because the Twilight Saga won the biggest award of the night, also known as Ultimate Choice. Trio, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner accepted the award all giving a small speech. As a token of their appreciation, both Robert and Kristen gave their surfboards to audience members.
English boy band, One Direction may not have been at the show, but they walked away with two TCA’s including Choice Breakout Group and Choice Love Song. The boys put together a pre-taped video thanking everyone for the awards that they received.
Taylor Swift, yet again, pulled off the TCA for Choice Female Artist for the second year in a row. Taylor rocked an up-do hairstyle with an elegant, backless dress. With Taylor being the down to earth person she is, she thanked her fans for everything they do for her as well as everyone else who made it possible for her.
I know you’re wondering why I haven’t mentioned a certain someone yet. Not only was he nominated for eight awards this year, he had an outstanding performance of his hit single “Boyfriend” as well as his new radio single “As Long As You Love Me” featuring Big Sean. I bet you know who I’m talking about by now, yes, the one and only Justin Bieber. Justin has surprised us again with an “electricity” themed performance where he shocked the audience with new dance moves and a one-of-a-kind outfit. Although Bieber didn’t win all eight surfboards, he walked away with four of them including Choice Male Artist, Choice Male Music Star of the Summer, Choice Male Fashion Icon, as well as Choice Single by a Male – Boyfriend.
With the final award of the night, introduced by Zoe Saldana and Taylor Lautner, hottie Chris Hemsworth takes home Choice Summer Movie Star Male.

As the show came to a close, Kat Graham, as well as Demi Lovato and Kevin McHale introduced the final performance. With her hit single “Call Me Maybe” at the top of the music charts; Carly Rae Jepsen performs with an unforgettable twist. During her performance, fan made videos went up behind her as she performed “Call Me Maybe” which made the TCA’s end with not only a laugh, but a bang!
