Summer is always a great time to hit up a concert.  Lots of artists are always touring this time of year.  This week I went to Drake’s Club Paradise tour at the DTE Energy Music Theatre right outside Detroit.  This sold out event at the outdoor amphitheater was one of the hottest tickets in town.

Featured on the bill were hip-hop stars French Montana, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka Flame, and J. Cole. With such a strong opening lineup, this created the perfect opportunity for the performers to come out later with Drake, and perform their collaborations.

Drake opened up the show with “Lord Knows,” “Under Ground Kings,” his verse from “I’m on One,” and “Crew Love,” and “She Will.” Finally Drake acknowledges the audience and lets us know that this isn’t just a concert, it’s an experience, and an experience it was.  That first set of songs were setup as songs you’d hear driving to the club.  He then moved into “Up All Night,” and “We’ll be Fine.”

Then 2 Chainz came out to perform “No Lie,” followed by Waka Flocka Flame to perform “Round Of Applause” with some impressive small-scale fireworks that would burst over the rappers’ heads to agree with Drake’s handclaps on the chorus.

The crowd got even more hyped when Drake started to perform “Forever.” You could barely hear him rap, “Last name ever, first name greatest” because the crowd was so excited and they were rapping it with him.

Following this, Drake started to perform “Marvin’s Room,” followed by “Trust Issues,” “Take Care,” and “Miss Me.”

While Drake performed so many of his songs, he only performed usually one or two verses of his songs and moved right onto the next. I guess that’s what happens when you have so many other people on your songs.

He ended the show with “HYFR,” “The Motto,” where he didn’t skip out on Lil’ Wayne’s verse, and then followed that with “Headlines.”

He had the crowd rapping, singing, and cheering, and on their feet for his entire 90-minute set. And while the amphitheater has a strict no-noise curfew after 11:00, Drake was a rebel and was still performing until 11:02.
