The Universe will never be the same thanks to The Wanted

February 1, 2012

Whoever said that boy bands were “so 90’s” have clearly been living under a rock. Today’s music scene is filled with tunes from Mindless Behavior, One Direction, and even the original boy bands, the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block have reunited. But one boy band that is steadily climbing the international charts is a group of 5 super hot guys with vocals that will make you swoon. Tom Parker, Nathan Sykes, Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, and Jay McGuiness form The Wanted and hail from the UK & Ireland. (This means totally hot accents to match their gorgeous faces!)

Just a little background info on the group in case you’re one of those people living under a rock: They were brought together in 2009 by Jayne Collins. Their debut single, “All Time Low” was released in 2010. It reached the #1 spot on the UK charts and stayed in the Top 40 for 17 straight weeks. Not only have their tracks been heavy hitters on the charts, but they’ve also put on a crowd-pleasing show on a sold out theatre tour in 2011 and served as the opening act for international pop phenomenon, Justin Bieber on several occasions.

Why the sudden interest in The Wanted? Simply because these guys are amazing and aren’t your typical “cookie cutter boy band.” And with the recent reception that they’ve been getting since making their US debut, it’s safe to say I’m not the only one who thinks so. These guys love the admiration from their US fans. In a recent interview, member Max George told MTV News that it’s been “unbelievable, like we never expected it. The States is one territory in the world we always wanted to crack, and that’s like the ultimate. It’s been amazing.”

Bieber’s manager, Scott “Scooter” Braun has helped boost their US popularity by tweeting “@thewantedmusic i see you guys doing your thing. first gig SOLD OUT…congrats. Welcome to America! we might have to come to a gig! cheers!” and ” the call came in today. @thewantedmusic are coming to the US because they are wanted on @TheEllenShow for Monday airing on Tuesday. nice.”

Their single, “Glad You Came”  from their second album, ‘Battleground’  has captured the 24th spot on the US iTunes Top 100 and it’s still climbing!

The group appeared on The Ellen show on January 10th, and since have participated in numerous radio interviews & performed shows while on a mini US tour, hitting cities such as New York, Orlando, Dallas, and ending in San Diego and Los Angeles. The Wanted’s last US television appearance for now is on Feburary 8th on The Chelsea Lately Show before heading back to the UK and Ireland to embark on their own arena tour.

I’m excited to see what comes next for these guys, not just in the US, but internationally. If Scooter Braun has anything to do with them in the future, they will blow up immensely because we all know that everything Scooter touches turns to gold.

So will The Wanted be back in the US any time soon? Hopefully…I mean after all, who could  stay away from us American girls? 😉
